The basics

What Is a Balloon Wall?

A balloon wall is a full surface of balloons, most often 6 to 10 feet across, that works as a backdrop on its own.

A balloon arch frames a space and a balloon garland follows a line, but a balloon wall covers the entire area edge to edge. It's built on a freestanding frame or grid, so it can stand in front of any surface: a living-room wall, a rented studio's cyc, a ballroom's paneling or a warehouse's brick. Use it as a photo backdrop, a stage back, a wall behind the dessert table or a branded step-and-repeat.

Square foot for square foot, nothing in balloon decor makes a bigger statement. Walls fit birthdays, weddings, grad parties, gender reveals, holiday parties and corporate nights, and they photograph cleanly because no part of the room peeks through.

Wall styles

Types of Balloon Walls We Build

There are five ways to build one, and each lands at a different look and price point.

Organic balloon walls

Mixed balloon sizes layered across the entire surface give an organic wall its soft, cloud-like texture. It's the richest style we build and the go-to for weddings, showers and milestone birthdays. It also takes the most balloons, which puts it at the top of the wall price list.

Grid and link balloon walls

Grid walls (also sold as quick link or link balloon walls) are made from linking balloons joined into a net, so every balloon sits in a neat row. That structure lets you work in a checkerboard, a heart, a number or a simple stripe. The look is clean and graphic, which suits team colors and brand palettes.

Framed balloon walls

Framed walls pack balloons inside a defined shape: a rectangle, an arched chiara frame or a circle. The outline does half the styling. Arched frames feel elegant, square ones feel modern, and rings feel playful.

Foil and mylar balloon walls

Foil walls are built from mylar shapes, usually hearts, stars or squares in metallic finishes. They throw light around, look sharp on camera and contain no latex, which matters for guests with allergies and for hospitals, schools and venues that don't allow latex.

Floating and lighted balloon walls

Floating walls use helium balloons tied on ribbons and anchored in rows, so the whole wall sways a little. It's a striking effect with a short life, so plan it for an event of a few hours. Lighted walls weave in LED string lights or LED balloons for evening parties and New Year's Eve.

Sizing

Balloon Wall Sizes, and the Balloon Count Behind Each

Choose the size by the photo you have in mind. An 8×8 ft wall fits a group of six to eight without anyone cut off.

A grid wall of 11-inch link balloons uses about 1.2–1.5 balloons per square foot, and an organic wall uses two to four times that. Check the ceiling height and keep 2–3 ft clear in front of the wall for photos.

Branded step-and-repeat

A grid wall in brand colors with a logo panel, for launches, screenings, galas and booths.

A ready-made set for a creator shoot, a product drop or a team photo in a rented studio.

Gender reveal moment

A neutral wall with a hidden pop panel, or one side that turns out pink or blue.

Occasions

Balloon Walls for Birthdays, Showers, Grad Parties and the Holidays

These are the events that book our balloon walls most often.

  • Birthdays: walls for kids' parties and 18th, 21st and 30th birthdays, frequently with an age or name worked in.
  • Weddings and bridal showers: ivory, white and blush organic walls behind the sweetheart table or at the reception door.
  • Graduations and prom: grid walls in school colors with the class year, and glam walls for prom photos.
  • Gender reveals and baby showers: neutral walls with a reveal built in, and soft pastels for showers.
  • Valentine's Day and Galentine's: walls of foil hearts in rose gold, hot pink and red.
  • Lunar New Year: red and gold walls for family dinners and office celebrations.
  • Christmas and New Year's Eve: red, green and gold walls, and black, gold and silver chrome walls for the countdown.

Installation

Installing a Balloon Wall Without a Single Mark on Your Paint

The short version: nothing we build is attached to your walls.

Each balloon wall stands on its own weighted frame. At home that saves your paint from tape and glue dots. At hotels in Beverly Hills and downtown, rented photo studios and most event halls, it's required anyway, since tape, nails and adhesives on walls are usually off-limits. A freestanding wall can also be shifted a few feet on the day if the room plan changes.

  1. 1

    Measure and plan

We confirm the wall size, ceiling height, outlets for lights, and the route in, including stairs, freight elevators and where the van can stop.

  2. 2

    Build

Big walls are made in panels, carried in, joined on-site and fluffed until the seams vanish.

  3. 3

    Finish

Vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last. Then we check the wall from the spot where photos will be taken.

What's the best way to hang balloons on a wall? Don't hang them on the wall at all; put them on a frame in front of it. If you must attach balloons directly, use removable hooks and fishing line, not tape, and test any adhesive in a hidden spot first.

Longevity

How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?

Air-filled walls stay full for several days indoors. Helium floating walls last hours.

An organic or grid wall filled with air holds its shape for several days in a climate-controlled room, and often a full week. Foil walls last longer still. Floating helium walls start sagging within hours. For a backyard party inland in summer, keep the wall shaded and build it the same day, because sun and heat break latex down fast. Near the coast, the bigger worry outdoors is the afternoon breeze, so walls get heavier bases there.

Questions

Balloon Walls in Los Angeles: FAQ

What is a balloon wall?

A balloon wall is a solid, freestanding surface of balloons, typically 6 to 10 feet wide, used as a photo backdrop, a stage background or a wall behind the dessert table. It can be organic, grid-style, framed or made of foil balloons.

How much do balloon walls cost?

Our foil balloon walls start at $125 for 8×5 ft, grid walls at $450 and organic walls at $650 for 8×8 ft. The size, style and extras set the final price.

How long do balloon walls last?

Air-filled walls last several days indoors, often a week. Foil walls last longer. Floating helium walls last a few hours, and an outdoor wall in full summer sun inland lasts only hours.

What size balloon wall do I need?

Most hosts choose 8×8 ft, which holds a cake table or a group of six to eight. Go down to 6×6 ft for a small living room or a couple's photo, and up to 8×10 ft or a custom width for a stage or head table.

Will a balloon wall damage my walls?

No. Every wall we build sits on its own weighted frame a few inches in front of yours. Nothing is taped, nailed or glued to the surface behind it.

What do you call a wall of balloons linked together in rows?

A grid wall or link wall. Linking balloons are connected into a net, which makes rows, patterns, numbers and logos possible.

Can a balloon wall be latex-free?

Yes. Foil (mylar) walls contain no latex, so they work for guests with latex allergies and for venues that ban latex.

Can you use a balloon wall as a set for a photo or video shoot?

Yes. We build walls in rented studios and creative spaces across LA, sized to your camera frame. Large walls arrive as pre-built panels, so the on-site build is short and more of your booked studio time goes to the shoot.

Can a balloon wall include a name or a logo?

Yes. A name or date is cut in custom vinyl and applied to the front, and a logo either sits on a panel set into the balloons or is laid out in a grid wall using your brand colors.
