The basics
What Is a Balloon Backdrop?
A balloon backdrop combines a solid background with balloons, so the photo spot looks designed instead of like a bare wall.
Every balloon backdrop starts with a surface: a printed or painted panel, a shimmer wall, a flower wall, a grass wall or a fabric drape. A balloon garland then sweeps over or around it. The surface gives you clean color behind the guest of honor; the balloons add shape, depth and personality. Put a name in vinyl or marquee numbers in front and it becomes the centerpiece of the room.
That's why "balloon arches and backdrops" tend to be booked together, with an arch or garland doing the framing and a backdrop filling in behind. If you want the entire surface covered in balloons with no panel showing, look at a balloon wall instead.
Backdrop styles
Balloon Backdrop Styles
The backdrop's shape sets the tone before the first balloon is added.
Round backdrops and balloon hoops
A round panel with a garland curving across one side is the backdrop we build most for birthdays and showers. The balloon hoop is its open cousin: a metal ring wrapped partway in balloons and florals. Because you can see the setting through the middle, hoops look especially good at garden weddings, backyard engagements and anywhere with a view worth keeping in the shot.
Chiara (arched) backdrops
Chiara panels are tall boards with a rounded top, used on their own or as a set of two or three at staggered heights. They read clean and modern and give a garland a lovely line to trace. Angle two of them toward each other and they wrap the cake table like a small stage.
Square and panel backdrops
Square backdrops use a rectangular panel or frame, usually with the garland climbing one side and running across the top. Panel trios (three panels next to each other in different heights or colors) give you a wide backdrop for a long dessert or buffet table.
Shimmer walls with balloons
Shimmer walls, also called sequin walls, are grids of metallic squares that flutter and catch every light in the room. Add a balloon garland in a matching or contrasting palette and the backdrop glows on camera, especially after sunset.
Flower, greenery and grass wall backdrops
Flower walls of silk roses and hydrangeas, leafy greenery walls and boxwood-style grass walls bring a softer garden feel. With a balloon garland across one corner, they're a favorite for bridal showers, Mother's Day brunches and baptisms.
Draped and curtain backdrops
Fabric drape is the answer when you need a wide, soft background for a wedding, a gala or a school event. Put warm lights behind a sheer drape and it glows for evening receptions.
Balloon arch backdrops and photo booths
An arch can stand in front of a solid board or be built right into it. Either way it doubles as a photo booth backdrop: set a ring light, a booth or a content creator's tripod in front and the setup appears in every shot.

Add-ons
Backdrop Add-Ons: Vinyl Names, Marquee Letters, Columns and Pedestals
The extras are what make a backdrop personal, and they're what guests notice in the photos later.
Custom vinyl
A name, age, date, monogram or short phrase cut in the color you choose and applied to the panel.
Marquee letters and numbers
Light-up letters and numbers, 3 to 4 feet tall, set in front of the backdrop and often wrapped in garland.
Pedestals and cake stands
Cylinders and plinths at the base for the cake, cupcakes, favors and gifts.
Balloon columns
Balloon columns on each side make the setup wider and grander.
Floor balloons and bubbles
Clusters of balloons and clear bubble balloons along the base to finish the scene.
Lighting
Warm string lights or a small uplight for evening backyard parties, so the backdrop still photographs well after dark.
Sizing
Balloon Backdrop Sizes: How Much Space You Need
Most backdrops run 6 to 8 feet wide. Save room in front for the table and whoever's holding the phone.
| Backdrop | Size | Floor area to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| One round or chiara panel | 6–7.5 ft tall | About 8 ft wide × 6 ft deep |
| Shimmer wall | 4×7 to 8×8 ft | Its width plus 2 ft per side for the garland |
| Panel trio | Roughly 8–10 ft wide | About 12 ft wide × 7 ft deep |
| 10×10 ft backdrop | 10 ft wide × 10 ft tall | About 12 ft wide; measure the ceiling |
A 10×10 ft backdrop measures 10 feet across and 10 feet high, so it needs a ceiling of roughly 11 feet or more. It fits halls, ballrooms, lofts and outdoor setups better than most living rooms.

- Birthday backdrops: first birthdays, 21sts and 50ths, character themes for kids and glam setups for adults.
- Wedding, engagement and bridal shower backdrops: balloon hoops, chiara trios and flower walls in ivory, nude and blush.
- Gender reveal and baby shower backdrops: neutral setups with a reveal moment, or soft pastels for showers and sprinkles.
- Baptism and christening backdrops: white, ivory and pale blue or pink, finished with florals.
- Quinceañera, debut and sweet 16 backdrops: glam setups with chrome, a crown and her name in marquee letters.
- Holiday backdrops: Christmas, Lunar New Year, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter and Mother's Day.
Planning
Tips for a Backdrop That Photographs Well
Where the backdrop goes matters more than which backdrop you pick.
- Keep it away from glass. Lots of LA homes and lofts have big windows or sliding doors. Bright light behind the backdrop turns faces into silhouettes in phone photos, so set it against a solid wall.
- Light the front. A ring light or a soft lamp facing the backdrop beats harsh overhead light.
- Give it room. Allow 5–6 feet in front for the table, the guests and the person taking the picture.
- Check the ceiling. Measure before choosing a 7 ft chiara or a 10×10 ft backdrop.
- Outdoors, think about wind and sun. A backdrop catches wind like a sail. Outdoor backdrops get weighted bases and go against a wall or fence where possible, out of afternoon sun inland and out of the sea breeze near the beach.

Questions
Balloon Backdrops in Los Angeles: FAQ
How much do balloon backdrops cost?
Backdrop rentals start at $95 for a panel and $145 for a shimmer wall. Styled backdrops with an organic balloon garland start at $425, and balloon hoop or A-frame backdrops start at $575. Most full setups land between $425 and $900.
How much is a balloon arch with a backdrop?
Our arch-and-backdrop combinations usually cost $525–$900, depending on the garland length, the backdrop surface and extras like marquee numbers and columns.
How big is a 10×10 ft backdrop?
Ten feet wide and ten feet tall. Plan for about 12 feet of wall and a ceiling of roughly 11 feet or higher, which suits halls, lofts and ballrooms more than most living rooms.
How many balloons are needed for a balloon hoop?
A garland covering a third to half of a 6–7 ft hoop usually takes about 60–120 balloons in mixed sizes. Wrapping the whole hoop takes more.
Can I rent a backdrop without balloons?
Yes. Shimmer walls, flower walls, grass walls and panel backdrops can all be rented on their own, with balloons added later if you'd like.
Where should the backdrop go?
Against a solid wall, away from windows and glass doors, with 5–6 feet clear in front for a table and photos. Outdoors, choose shade and put it against a wall or fence to block the wind.
Can I get a cheap balloon backdrop in Los Angeles?
Yes. The lowest-cost route is a panel or shimmer wall rental ($95–$145) plus a 5 ft grab-and-go garland you hang yourself (from $110), so roughly $205–$255 together. A short garland across one corner also costs less than a full sweep.
Can you add a name to the backdrop?
Yes. Names, ages, dates and monograms are cut in custom vinyl and applied to the panel, and marquee letters can spell a name in front of it.
